Heating & cooling

Low-carbon heat, designed with care.

An air source heat pump can heat a home and its hot water efficiently, but only when the system is designed for the house. We start with an honest assessment of whether it suits your home, and what would need to change if it does not yet.

A good fit for

  • Homes moving away from oil, LPG or an ageing gas boiler
  • Renovations and extensions where the heating is being redesigned
  • Homeowners who want lower carbon emissions from their heating

What we do

How we approach it.

  1. 01

    Assess suitability

We look at insulation, glazing, existing radiators and hot water needs, and tell you plainly whether a heat pump is a good fit now.

  2. 02

Calculate heat loss room by room

A heat pump runs at lower water temperatures than a boiler, so radiator and pipe sizes matter. We calculate what each room needs.

  3. 03

    Install the system

Outdoor unit, cylinder, controls and any radiator changes, planned so the house keeps working during the work as far as possible.

  4. 04

    Set it up for efficiency

We commission the system and explain how to run it. The best results usually come from steady, lower temperatures rather than short bursts.

Grants

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is only available through MCS-certified installers, and our prices don't include it. Heat pump installations are currently zero-rated for VAT. Ask us and we'll talk you through the options.

Planning in Bath

Many installations fall under permitted development, but listed buildings and conservation areas, which are common in Bath, have extra rules. We will flag what may apply at survey.

Questions

Will a heat pump work in an older house?

Often, yes, but it depends on how much heat the house loses and what can be improved. That is why we start with a heat loss calculation and an honest view.

Do I need to replace all my radiators?

Not always. Some radiators may need to be larger to deliver the same heat at a lower temperature. The heat loss calculation shows which ones.
